Billabong Pro Tahiti Update

Il Billabong Pro Tahiti è iniziato e ci sono già vittime importanti. John John e Fanning sono fuori dal contest.

Mentre eravamo distratti dalla scorsa mareggiata estiva, il Billabong Pro Tahiti è cominciato ed è proseguito con il completamento dei primi due round e parte del terzo prima di essere messo in stand by per due giorni consecutivi. Vittime illustri sono già cadute sul campo e si tratta di John John Florence e Mick Fanning.

Florence è rimasto vittima di un Gabriel Medina che dopo aver perso la heat del primo round ed essere riemerso dal secondo, ha avuto la meglio nella cosiddetta “supeheat” del terzo round, affermandosi su John John per pochi decimi di punto, e dopo essersele suonate a suon di punteggio sopra il 9. Diversa la sorte di Mick Fanning, approdato subito al terzo round ma rimasto vittima di Aritz Aranburu, entrato come wild card, in una heat lenta e avara di onde buone. Poco dopo infatti il contest è stato sospeso per via delle condizioni divenute inconsistenti con l’alta marea.

Anche Adriano De Souza, attuale numero uno del ranking, è stato eliminato al terzo round dalla wild card Bruno Santos, e se Fanning non fosse stato eliminato da Aranburu avrebbe potuto soffiargli la licra gialla, ma entrambi escono dal contest con un 13esimo posto. Ne approfitta Filipe Toledo, che dal suo quarto posto del ranking avanza grazie alle vittoria su Brett Simpson al terzo round.
