Hi Tom, here's pretty good list of Italian surf shops, (they call them surfing shops....
), for Capri you have to check the Campania region, Rome =>Lazio, Venice =>Veneto and Florence => Toscana.
Most shops and especially those in the larger inland cities like Rome and Florence, are not really "core", they concentrate more on clothing with just a few boards, mostly popouts or Chinese boards(NSP's and surftechs are really big here and they have a growing and established reputation for being advanced boards, go figure). Pretty much all the shops mainly cater to windsurfing and kite, which are much more popular than "surf da onda", wave surfing as we call it here, which is still a niche and counts a few hundred year round surfers, mainly in central and northern Italy and in the island of Sardinia, and only a handful in the south.
Surf shops actually run by surfers that sell hand shaped boards, either local or imported are only a few, often found in the small coastal towns that have the better breaks.
Hope that helped.
Have fun in Italy.
