come dice zion
è una fissa empatico/emotiva
in italia siamo sfigatelli, non è che prima possiamo provare tutte le tavole che poi compriamo....altrimenti lost e ci qui da noi non venderebbero.
Nessun valore storico per me, a naso credo mi possa piacere, ho letto tante e tante review online.
Board: MR Supertwin
Dims (slight tweak from stock dims): 5’11 x 19 x 2.38; closest stock dims model was 6’x 19.25 x 2.44 (28.5L)
Fins: MR TFX with trailer
Volume: Guessing around 27.5; maybe a hair more?
Rider: 5’10 x 155-160; Aging (wait – OLD), bad back, surfs 2-3X per week, non-ripper.
Ordered: June 2011; received from Hot Batch, August 2011.
History: I tried to buy a used one from this forum in the same dims but someone beat me to the punch. Damn you!! HA HA!! Bummed, I saw a listing on Mayhem’s blog (?) that MR was coming in June so I ordered it over the phone sight unseen; and I had never held that model before either; only other MRs. Hot Batch guys are super easy to work with. The board came in exactly as ordered in including logos and color.
Ride: First day out was a big, walled, and big north current at HB; tons of paddling. Got some a few “good ones;” board paddled really well for its size; made a few real late drops to walled oblivion. Thought to myself this thing is gonna light up on a good day. Well, that took longer than expected and with winter coming, I wanted to use this as my daily. So, I kept riding it while trading off with some other boards in my quiver, and on the fifth session I had on it, a 4-6ft face day, it went nuts, and I went along for the ride. Seemed like I could go anywhere on the wave with the blink of an eye. I really haven't surfed that well in a couple of years; everything just started lining up at it was “off to the races.”
Likes: It’s a fast paddler, super easy to turn, and has a lot of hold in all kinds of surf. Cuts through chop pretty good. Accelerates very nice on the drop and fits the pocket of most waves really well. It’s a lot like a tri and quad (or best of both worlds) for me; tons of speed. No sliding whatsoever in turns. I have only spun out once in the last 6 months but that was more due to backwash than the board itself. The board grovels well for me and I have ridden it with success on some pretty small and windy days. I am running the MR TFX fins, and they provide plenty of drive, and they feel super smooth off the bottom and the top. I find I can pump around sections fairly well with current set up. The board redirects easily and I think makes me surf better (but as stated earlier, I am no ripper). The glass job is stock and the board feels super light compared to other polys I have in similar size range. I cannot remember name of glass shop though.
Dislikes: None; REALLY; this board works, and it is a must for my quiver. I wanted to order a new board this winter for the coming summer but will most likely be riding this exclusively instead; will order a new MR when this dies.
This is not a retro twin shape but MR’s HP twin. Therefore, the nose is pulled in more and the rails are more foiled than some of his retro shapes. Nose is about 12”; wings and swallow out the back provide bite at any speed. On cutbacks, I find the board keeps it speed easily and feels very positive.
I had a session at the end of March in North OC where the board was catching everything in sight so easily. The drops were butter, and a couple folks were asking what I was riding. I also get stopped before or after my sessions on a regular basis as people wanna check it out.
The biggest surf I have ridden it on was about 6-7ft faces. The board easily handled it and can probably go a little more although it’s listed as a small wave (1-6ft) board.
If you do not have one of these in your quiver, I highly recommend getting one. You will not be disappointed. To be completely honest, I thought I would never find a board to replace my Lost Quad, but this MR is just too good.
From MRs site: The Super Twin is the most popular and versatile model in my range. It is my ultimate small wave high-performance board and is the model I choose to ride most of the time. It is fast, loose and really easy to turn.
I know some other folks picked these boards up around the same time, but I think most put them up for sale. I always wondered why that happened (??). My buddy bought a 6’6 version and was happy at first then he told me it had too much foam. Maybe it was a sizing thing for others too as I ordered “blind” since I could not find one in a shop anywhere?
Conclusion: If you want a versatile board for 1-6ft+ waves that paddles fast, does not hang on drops, speeds easily around sections, and maintains its speed even on the flat-slope waves, this is it. It really is high performance and can be pushed hard. I haven’t found its limits yet. Often wonder why I do not see more of these in the water. Maybe folks think MRs are all about retro twins but that’s clearly not the case here. This board put new life into my surfing.
Get one, you won’t regret it!
