ASP World Masters Championship

Parte oggi il waiting period del nuovo Campionato del Mondo Masters ASP, più che un campionato di “vecchietti” un ritrovo di leggende del surf!

Il campionato Masters si era interrotto nel 2003, e dopo sette anni l’ASP lo ha riportato in vita con il Supersurf World Masters Championship e le classiche due divisioni in gara: Masters (età 36-49) e Grand Masters (età 50 e oltre).

Basta guardare la lista degli invitati per rendersi conto che al resuscitato ASP World Masters Championship prenderanno parte i nomi che hanno fatto la storia del surf, che da oggi sono riuniti a Rio de Janeiro in attesa della luce verde.

Naturalmente ci sarà anche Gary Elkerton, detentore dell’ultimo titolo e 3 volte campione Masters.

“Quando mi sono ritirato da World Tour è stata la cosa peggiore per il mio fisico” ha detto Luke Egan, che parteciperà al suo primo mondiale Masters, “Ho smesso di prendermi cura di me e il mio surf è diventato ordinario. Da quando ho ricominciato ad allenarmi insieme a Joel Parkinson, non mi sono mai sentito meglio. Credo che il Masters sia positivo per molti di questi ragazzi. E’ una motivazione, una ragione per continuare a surfare e credo che sia fantastico che ci siano questi eventi.”

Il waiting period si estenderà fino al 31 luglio.
